When is your birthday?

My birthday is during winter time. It's sort of sad that as you get older you get less excited by birthdays. I suppose when you're a child the world is full of unknowns, magic. As an adult, people tend to apply more knowledge and logic in all situations. A lot of the wide-eyed wonder of being a child is lost, as you start to gain responsibilities, and start having to worry about taking care of yourself and maybe others. I think as a child the reason you get excited about a birthday is for the material possessions, and as an adult you're more worried about other things. I guess this is why adults buy each other really useful but seemingly plain things for birthdays and Christmas. I always tried to discourage my parents from buying those sorts of things for their relatives in favour of something 'fun', but now as I am about to move out, I can see that if my aunty gave me a brand new set of pots and pans, I'd be so thankful compared to if she gave me an action man.
That said, the child in me is strong. I like getting gifts that people really have put thought into. But whatever it's cool. The bottom line is, it's just another day. I just enjoy it when people can spend some time to hang out, but that can happen any day. I suppose what I mean is... People give the event of a birthday it's meaning. It's best to go in expecting nothing, and go to bed with a smile. On your birthday, and everyday.
